ISO 9001
MSI's quality systems are certified to ISO 9001. ISO 9001 is a quality system developed in Switzerland in 1943. The ISO system consists of 20 individual elements within the company which must conform to the ISO requirements. These areas range from raw materials receiving, production and shipping to purchasing, quality assurance and sales. The strength of ISO 9001 lies in its mandate for continual improvement and, when used effectively, will result in continued product improvement. We believe this will result in better products and service for our customers, improving customer relations, and cementing our leadership status.
AS 9100
MSI's quality systems are certified to AS9100. AS9100, Aerospace Basic Quality System, is the aerospace version of ISO 9000. AS9100 contains ISO 9000 in its entirety with the addition of 27 clarifications or qualifiers and 8 notes to the existing 20 elements of ISO 9000. The document was developed by a consortium of aerospace prime contractors operating as a subcommittee (AAQG) under the Aerospace and Defense Division of the American Society for Quality Control.
Nadcap-CP and Scope of Accreditation
Nadcap-CP represents major prime contractors, suppliers, and government agencies in aerospace, defense, and related industries throughout the United States and internationally. Nadcap-CP is administered by the Performance Review Institute (PRI), an independent, not-for-profit trade association affiliated with the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE). Through Nadcap-CP, PRI accredits subcontractors and suppliers to aerospace and defense industry consensus standards. The "one-audit, one-time", and for-all accreditation concept offers real cost reductions to both prime contractor and supplier. Through Nadcap-CP, PRI assures and enhances quality, saves valuable time and effort, and cuts direct and overhead costs by performing the following functions:
- securing acceptance of these lists as internationally recognized SAE Aerospace Standards (AS)
- auditing suppliers' technical capabilities and conformance to applicable procedures
- reporting audit results and providing official audit reports to appropriate primes and/or government agencies
- focusing the responsibility for quality maintenance on the supplier and subcontractors
- publishing a Qualified Manufacturer's List and making it available to prime contractors through an on-line database
- promoting the benefits of using accredited suppliers
